Interdune Boardwalk: The Interdune Boardwalk is a popular half-mile boardwalk trail that takes visitors on a journey through the heart of the dune field, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and desert landscape. The boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and is an excellent option for visitors of all ages and abilities.

Playa Trail: This trail is a family-friendly short 0.5-mile trail that leads to a small playa. The playa will temporarily fill with rainwater from storms, but most of the year is a dry lakebed. When you walk out to the playa, it will be brown, white, filled with water, or growing crystals.

Lake Lucero

Towns near the park: 

  • Alamogordo (15mi) – Alamogordo is located in the Tularosa Basin of southern New Mexico, just a short distance from White Sands National Park. You can find gas, groceries, water, and a place to dump your tanks.

  • Cloudcroft (30mi) – Cloudcroft, New Mexico, is a charming mountain town in the Sacramento Mountains, just a short drive from White Sands National Park.
