A day trip through Castle Dome Mountains

When you get off the pavement you find the real good stuff.

During our stay in Yuma, Arizona, we found a fun offroad trail called Castle Dome Mountain Trail, renowned for its moderately challenging terrain. The trail has a moderately difficult rating, so it looked like the perfect trail for our mildly modified Wrangler.

We hit the road in the early afternoon and grabbed lunch in town. After a 40-minute drive north on US95 from Fortuna, we came to King Rd. We headed east on a gravel road for several miles before turning onto the two-track that would lead us through the mountains.

Including the off-chutes and stops, it took us about 3 hours to complete the trail. It wasn’t a difficult trail, but some spots required at least a high-clearance vehicle.

Be sure to bring your camera for the scenic views and the wildlife (possibly)!
